I will be holding one at the Boca Raton Community Center, if enough people are interested in attending.
Friday, 11/18/16, at 12:30—1:30 p.m. RSVP with me to let me know if you’re interested in coming. I will only hold the class if there is enough interest. It is very easy to be disqualified… so ready the rules very carefully! These bridge rules are very different from the Science Olympiad. You do not need to attend this class if you would like to attend. It just helps to hear and see how someone has done it before. NO CHARGE FOR CLASS.
Special Guest: Maria Aparacio from the Bridge Building Competition will be there as well to answer questions.
My son won 1st place last year in the Middle School Division. 2nd place was also a homeschooling kid!
I believe that you need to be officially be a middle or high school student, and be registered in Palm Beach County to participate. I will verify to be sure. (ie. your child is in 5th grade, but you think they are 6th grade in some subjects but not all… probably would not count.) Still fun to watch though!
This activity is in right next to the Palm Beach County Science Fair (held in the other side of the room.) They do test every bridge, whether it is disqualified or not.
This is an excellent activity! Our family has been participating in this for 3 or 4 years. We usually get disqualified… (LOL) so it was nice to see a victory last year! We usually spend the Thanksgiving Weekend letting them cut and glue, as it can take a while to get an awesome bridge. Think of it as an amazing puzzle!
Definitely order the box and glue online that they suggest. It takes hours to go and find the right stores with the precise items to put this together. The kit costs about $20 including shipping to get, and you’re ready to go! Plan ahead, as it takes a few days to get in the mail.
Please pass this info onto anyone who you think would be interested in participating.
Thanks!
